NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, North Central Division 20th annual Cavalcade of Stars presented by Budweiser Norwalk Ohio
The NHRA Division 3 held the second of seven Lucas Oil Divisionals at Summitt Motorsports Park in Norwalk Ohio. The race was a double header with two Lucas Oil races held over the weekend. The season opener was at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison Il.
COMPETITION ELIMINATOR

It was anticlimactic in Comp as Scott Linder in his A/A Grand Am could not make the bell giving Christopher Dodd from Double Oak Texas a bye to the winner’s circle
Linder from Hedrick IA had his Pontiac running good throughout eliminations taking out the dragster of Greg Kamplain along with I/A of Andrew Holt on his way to the finals. On his side of the ladder Dodd driving ’05 C/EA Cobalt beat Troy Galbraith’ B/DA and John Frech’s F/D. With no competition in the other lane, Dodd pulled his Chevy to the starting line and took the green for his ninth Lucas Wally.
SUPER STOCK

Former NHRA Lucas World Champ Pete D’Agnolo from Rochester NY drover his ’67 Camaro the Norwalk win defeating a red lighting Michael Brand from D2.
Brand who calls Alpharetta, Ga home defeated the COPO of Leo Glasbrenner and recent New England Nationals champ Shane Oakes in earlier rounds while D’Agnolo got by SS/EA Camaro of Ryan Haag and GT/IA Cavalier of Larry Hodge before taking a bye run in the semis for a trip to the finals. His win in Ohio was D’Agnolo’s sixth Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Wally.

Nearly 100 Super Stock racers were on hand for the huge field.
STOCK ELIMINATOR

New York transplant Tim Fletcher who now calls Selma NC home, drove his Chevy to his second career Lucas win over David Pazak’s D/SA GTX from Pennsylvania
In the finals, Fletcher had the better light with a 0.013 to Pazak’s 0.097 and won with a slower 11.045 on his 10.97 dial to the better but losing 10.692 on a 10.67 of Pazak.

With over 100 Stockers qualified, Fletcher’s ’69 Camaro, F/SA was #74 in the field and had to run six rounds of competition to get to the finals. Fletch defeated the ’14 Cobra Jet of Cody Herron from Borden IN. and the similar FS/A of Mike Brand from Georgia in earlier rounds
Pazak, had his Mopar in the #35 spot and got by FS/D Challenger of Ohio racer Zac Ross and the B/S Camaro of Brent Darroch from Hookstown PA.
SUPER COMP

Winning his first career NHRA Lucas Wally, Kyle Anderson from West Palm Beach Fl. drove his dragster to an Ohio win over D3 racer Brad Cole from Avon Ind.

In a double breakout final, Cole had the better light but pushed it too hard on the top end breaking out with a 8.884 on the 8.90 index as Anderson was closer to the index and won with a 8.891.
SUPER GAS

Defending NHRA Lucas Super Gas World Champ JJ Brock from Pickens S.C. drove his green ’68 Camaro to a win over the Chevy Beretta of Indiana racer Nathan Vrooman.
Both drivers had identical reaction times and it was up to who tripped the stripe with the better time.
It was super close at the top end with Brock taking the win by approximately 8 inches for the win. Brock posed a 9.926 to the losing 9.929 of Vrooman.

For all the races he wins, the Wally at Norwalk was only the D2 racer’s second Lucas Oil divisional win.
SUPER STREET

Mark Smith from Bowling Green Ky. won his third career NHRA Lucas Wally with a win over the ’68 Camaro of Rick Huffman from Waxahachie Texas.

In another double breakout final Smith’s ’82 Mustang ran closer to the 10.90 index with a 10.899 to the losing 10.847 of Huffman after Huffman had a great 0.004 RT.
VP RACING FUELS TOP SPORTSMAN
Rick Sojka from North Aurora, Ill., drove his ’02 Firebird to his first ever Lucas win beating the red lighting of local racer Bill Yates in his ’68 Camaro.

Sojka, seeing the red light of his competition, still ran it like it meant winning with a 6.394 on his 6.39 dial.
VP RACING FUELS TOP DRAGSTER

Another transplant Alan Kenny who once called Canada home before moving to Pennsylvania, now calls Jupiter Fl home, took his Jeg’s.com sponsored blown dragster to a win over Texas racer JR Baxter.
It wasn’t easy for Kenny as Baxter had the better light, and Kenny had to chase him down. A few seconds into his run Baxter’s throttle cable broke slowing the dragster to a high nine second run as Kenny clicked it to an easy 6.265 win on his 6.10 dial.

The win in Ohio was Kenny’s 14th career Lucas win.
