NHRA Northeast Division 2022 Season Finale Dutch Classic at Maple Grove

The 2022 NHRA Division One season came to a close with the competition of the annual Pennsylvania Dutch Classic at Maple Grove Dragway in Mohnton Pa. With inclement weather forecast for Sunday, the decision was made to complete the entire race on Saturday.

As has been the norm for the Dutch Classic, the Hemi Shootout was a big part of the weekend’s action. Jimmy Daniels in the Ray Barton Dart was low qualifier with an 8.306 but in the finals it was 2022 Indy Hemi Challenge winner Steve Comella’s ’68 Cuda beating the Dart of Gary Wolkwitz with a 8.337 to Wolkwitz’s close 8.372.
Top Dragster was won by Mike Esposito over local racer Kevin Robb. Esposito ran a 6.92 to Robb’s 6.907.
George Forster drove his ’98 Monte Carlo to a Top Sportsman victory over low qualifier Dan Hill’s ’69 Camaro
The ’22 COPO Camaro of Jesse Alexandra won Competition Eliminator over Thomas Miller’s ’06 Cobalt.
Richard Kay drove his SS/BM ’69 Valiant to a Super Stock win over Charlie Bubka’s SS/HA ’67 Camaro
Stock Eliminator went to the G/SA ’83 Camaro of Shane Oakes over the D/SA Buick of Dan Blabolil
Grey Hays drove his dragster to a Super Comp win over Jeff Stricker from nearby by Mohnton. Hays was off the line first and ran a dead on 8.900 in the win.
Mt Airy MD. Sportsman racer Vince Fourcade put his ’68 Camaro in the Super Gas winner’s circle over Hank Smith’s ’15 Camaro
Super Street winner Doug Fellenbaum used a 0.034 light coupled with a 10.914 in his ’71 Nova to win over the similar ’72 Nova of Gary Pritchett who broke out with a 10.844.
