Volkswagen devotees gathered at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton P.A. for the June Bug VW Classic Presented by Ulrich’s. The crowd was greeted with comfortable temperatures, sunny skies, and low humidity. The June Bug is the largest gathering of Volkswagen vehicles on the East coast.

The event featured drag racing, a car show, kids coloring contest, and a sizable flea market. The drag racing was divided into four classes. Pro and Bracket cars ran the 1/4 mile while Pro and Super Pro raced the 1/8 mile course.

The car show was divided into two classes, Water Cooled and Air Cooled. Twenty- five winners were selected from each of the two vehicle categories. The judges had a challenging task picking the award winners among the three hundred plus entries.

The VW portion of the drag racing program was supplemented by the Quick Challenge series, Junior Dragster points race, and Pro Dial competition. The Quick Challenge is made up of Top Dragster and Top Sportsman vehicles. The winner of each class raced each other in a King of the Hill final. The Junior dragsters also had a similar final race among the various classes contested.

The great turnout of racers, show cars, and spectators was a testament of the loyalty to the June Bug VW Classic despite high fuel prices.
