Maryland racer and defending “A” champ DJ Cox has his DXI Construction Camaro sitting in the #1 spot at the East Coast Funny Car Chaos at Maryland International Dragway in Budds Creed MD.
After an aborted attempt and some engine damage during the first qualifying session, Cox responded with a low qualifying 3.687 to lead the field.
Right behind Cox is Virginia racer Melinda King with a 3.802 in her blown Camaro
During Friday’s second qualifying session, Bob Toth, near lane, defeated Pritchett in the makeup final from Summerduck earlier in the year.
Gary Pritchett in the Bunny and the Boys tribute car is currently in the #3 spot with a 3.873 and Brian Cunningham is in the #4 slot but probably will be part of final eliminations as the Nor’easter Mustang suffered a major engine explosion at the end of his 3.948 run.
The Mustang hiked the wheels up at the hit and was on a great run when the motor went south throwing the body off the car in a fiery explosion.
Andrew Armstrong in the Smokey Bonz currently is holding down the bump with a 4.744 in his unique Chevy II
The schedule calls for one more qualifying session at 3 PM Saturday with eliminations to follow
