Funny Car Chaos is off and running at Maryland International Raceway in Budds Creek MD. Qualifying under the lights at MIR was the featured attraction at the Maryland facility on Friday evening with Norfolk Virginia racer Melinda King taking her Camaro to the provisional #1 spot with a 3.845 @ 199.55 MPH.
Right behind King was the Firebird of Jim Gifford with a 3.903 @ 181.28 showing he has more to show in his potent Pontiac.
Currently in the #3 spot is the Mustang of Bill Dees driving by Jon Wall. The “Nor’Easter” laid down a 4.053 at only 159.83 MPH, again showing there’s more potential in the blown Ford.
The evenings festivities were cut short when a passing thundershower ended the program with a handful of cars in the staging lane waiting to run.
Qualifying starts up Saturday afternoon to set the fields with eliminations to start early evening.
