DRAG RACING ACTION ONLINE

The fall in the Northeast and the changing of the leaves makes for some of the greatest photos of all time.

But if you’re a No Prep racer in the Northeast it means one thing back side racing on one of the sport’s most historic venues Maple Grove Raceway.

With the return of backside racing since the return to racing in September a huge turnout of racers packed the pits with exciting and wheel standing racing action that lasted until dark under the lights and when the sun went down saw several popular winners in victory lane.

Unlike traditional drag racing, no prep runs take place on a track surface left as it is, without the rubber and traction compound that normally gets laid down before a pass. Drivers have to manage their power carefully and keep the car pointed straight, which makes for a very different kind of side by side competition.

The small tire class saw Joe Smoe getting the win in the final.

The always popular Big Tire class also joined in on the fun with Nick Digiovanni being the last person standing.

The street tire class which saw a great turnout of racers saw Dom Zack getting the win.

After his Maple win, Dom said, “Took the Nova down to Kyle Beswick’s Maple Grove Surface of Survival Backside Race, and out of a 26-car field, we came out ON TOP!”

“Huge shoutout to Ryan Woods for pushing the keys, dialing this thing in, and making the Nova the car to beat — without a doubt! This thing just keeps getting better, and we came home with a NEW PB!”

“Couldn’t be happier with how this car is performing!

Thank you to everyone who has helped with the car to get it this far. We won this one for you Momma Woods, Renee Toback Woods”

“THE NOVA IS A PROBLEM! “

Not to be outdone was the stick shift class which saw Chad Tracy holding the check when the sun went down.

The All Motor class saw Double R Ray Rod swiping the big check in the final.

Rounding out the racing action was IRS class which saw Josh Mattesan scoring the win.

After the event, Race Promoter and Event Coordinator Kyle Beswick adds, “ First and foremost I would like to thank the Koretsky family for making all this possible and for allowing us to do this in the first place.”

“The first time Kyle Koretsky and myself talked about doing this we weren’t to sure how it was going to go but we had faith. To start out Maple Grove Raceway has to have the fastest backside in the country. It may even be better than some tracks prepped front sides. You don’t commonly see 4.xx passes on many backsides on a 28 inch tire and there’s a few cars I’ve watched do it here numerous times. Quite impressive to say the least.”

“We had a 27 car small tire field which in my opinion was a pretty decent car count for how things have been going in the northeast lately. Joe Smoe won the small tire class in his Procharged Camaro.”

“We had 26 street cars that had to run a 15 mile cruise around town without stopping. Pretty neat seeing all them passing the track on their way back from the cruise. Even those guys on radials were flying on the backside. Dom Zack won the street class in his turbo’d Nova.

Big tire class was actually won by a small tire car believe it or not. Primer Nick won it in his turbo’d Camaro

Thank you everyone for the continued support. I know we’re not the biggest and best event out there, but we try our best to keep it ran smooth and keep it fun. We look forward to seeing you all at New Years no prep at Maple Grove Raceway
