If it is the first part of October in the historic town of Wildwood, New Jersey it can only mean one thing it is time for the annual running of TROG. TROG which as everyone knows stands for The Race Of Gentlemen which is the yearly gathering of pre war hot rods and motorcycles and their race on beaches of Wildwood, New Jersey. No matter what the weather everyone comes out and as fun to see how their car or bikes run. With a major storm one week earlier and off and on rain did not keep a great field or racers and fans taking part of the year’s TROG event.

While the event started on warm sunny skies on Thursday and Friday as racers started to come into the fill the pit area across from the Jersey Grill Bar and Grill.

Inside of the pit area fans could check out the race cars up close and personal. At the same time, they could check out all the cool items that were on sale in the swap meet area. All sorts of great hot rods were parked all around the streets making for a true treasure hunt for finding all that is cool.

While one parking lot across from the Jersey Girl was a pit area on one side another parking lot by Morey’s Pier was the home for Customs By the Sea. Customs By the Sea was a one day car show which featured all of the best hot rods and customs.

In addition to all of the customs and hot rods on display Friday always seems to draw a great number of vintage choppers. This could be because of the The Chopper Party know from time to time as Night of Troglodytes which is held at The Lazy Bass Bayside Bar & Grill just up the road in North Wildwood. If you enjoy seeing the 70’s style choppers than you were in luck. Everywhere you looked their were bikes riding around and on display.

When Saturday rolled around it go it a little wet from showers but when you are racing right near the ocean a little liquid sunshine is no bother.

This year’s Saturday part of TROG featured Woodies at the Wildwoods which was put on by the National Woodies Club. A great turnout of vintage Woodie Wagons filled the boardwalk making for a picture style postcard for lovers of this cars. However just a short distance away racers took their turn racing each other along side of the Atlantic Ocean, that is until mother nature decided it was time to reclaim the beach in the form of high tide.

The racing continued for two days with each and every race being flag started by two lovely ladies jumping high in the air waving a checkered flag.

Mel Stutz the leader and founder of TROG kept a watch over the event. Stutz made sure when the racing stopped there was live music to keep everyone entertained. Some of the bands that played included Bloodshot Bill, Spit Shine, Von Moms, Dracu-Las, The Low Spirits, Goons and famed surf band Messer Chups
