After Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association founder and president John Mazzorana announced his retirement from the sport last year, things didn’t look promising for the popular series that features some of the quickest Pro Mod cars in the Northeast states.
Enter Pro Mod racer and performance engine builder Andy Jensen to save the group from a ending nobody wanted. Jensen took over the association and started the hard job of scheduling races and getting racers to buy into his vision.
After the annual Door Wars event at MIR, the series moved to New England Dragway for race #2
The event held in conjunction with Jet Cars Under The Stars Presented By O’Reilly Auto Parts had fans on their feet throughout the night as a big crowd showed up for the action. In addition to the Pro Mods, Jet Cars, wheelstanders, along with nostalgia Funny Cars were on the bill.
After three qualifiers, the field was set and after two rounds, the finals featured Jensen in his sharp ’68 Camaro up against the ’69 Camaro of Jeff Simons. Simons’ car that is a solid three second performer took the win, the check, and the trophy after Jensen’s Camaro got out of the groove, and he had to lift.
