Promoter and Chaos president Chris Graves brought the Funny Car and Nitro Chaos to Eddyville Raceway Park in Oskaloosa IA over the Memorial Day weekend.
The event sponsored by Twisted Shifterz and presented by Stanke Motorsports featured Funny Cars, nitro powered dragsters, Pro Mods, and Altereds to thrill the crowd and the event did not disappoint
Chaos in the Cornfield lived up to its name with more than one errant car taking a trip off the track and into the adjacent cornfield but luckily no one was injured and the damage to the race cars was minimal.
Twenty-five cars made qualifying passes in FCC with Keith Zimmerer the quickest at a 3.735 followed by Kirk Williams posting a 3.745.
The field was divided up into three fields with the ‘A’ running heads up. The ‘B’ field would go off a 3.99 dial and finally the ‘C’ field using a 4.19 index.
Winning the Rodak’s Custom Roasted Coffee ‘A’ Field was low qualifier Keith Zimmerer and the “Penny Pincher” team out of Lindsay TX.
Zimmerer’s Mustang was up against 2024 Chaos champ Shayne Lawson’s Man O’ War Ford and the finals was a wild one with Zimmerer taking a 3.7179 to Lawson’s close 3.7689 with Lawson taking out the top end timing blocks in the loss.
Indiana racer Justin Malott (near lane) took the Alkydigger ‘B’ field in his popular “Must Be Nice” nostalgia Funny Car. Malott got the jump on Lee Loveall ‘s “Giant Killer” Novaand never looked back with a winning 4.1926 to a shutting off 10.2813 of Loveall.
The Wulff Pumps ‘C’ class went down to recent Texas winner Justin Herbst (far lane) in the team Executioner against Danny Mann in his “Pony Up” Mustang.
Herbst got off the line first and ran a 4.36 to Mann’s trailing 4.73
The Nitro Chaos show featured the most diverse group of racers on the property with two complete fields competing during the weekend
Oklahoma racer Garry Wheeler Jr (far lane) drove Jon Brook’s “Grand Prix Racing” dragster to the McKinney Corp ‘A’ field.
Wheeler beat Illinois racer Brian Inouye’s AA/FD in the final with a quick 3.737 to the losing 4.197 of Inouye.
The CP-Carrillo ‘B’ field went down to Cody Austin in the “BushWacker” AA/FA (far lane) racing the similar AA/FA of Anthony Whitfield. Austin got the better light and took the win with a 4.289 to the losing 5.016 of Whitfield.
