John Force suffers engine explosion, crash in first round at Virginia Nationals

During the first round of Funny Car eliminations at the PlayNHRA Virginia Nationals, John Force’s Funny Car suffered an engine explosion at the finish line and then crossed the centerline, striking both guard walls. Force was alert and was examined onsite by the NHRA Medical Team before being transported to a local medical facility for further evaluation.
Force shares a joke with fellow Funny Car racer Ron Capps during driver introductions Sunday morning. Less than an hour later John Force was involved in one of the worse wrecks in his career sending the 16 time NHRA champ to the hospital for observation

Seconds after this image was shot, the engine in the Peak Funny Car exploded sending the errant Camaro into the left hand barrier.
