Story and Images: “Nostalgia Mashie” Mihalko

The last nostalgia race on the Beaver Springs Dragway 2023 schedule was held under favorable weather conditions. The three day event began with a test and tune session Friday evening. Time trials were held Saturday and Sunday prior to eliminations. Three Eliminators were contested: Modified Production, Stock/Super Stock, and Competition. Test and Tune cars were run after each round of eliminations.The T&T vehicles were able to run for another hour after Sunday’s eliminations were completed.

A surprise for those attending was the sighting of former NASCAR driver “Mr. Excitement,” Jimmy Spencer spectating from the fence railing. He is a life long friend of the Kaiser family who were competing. Jimmy joined them later in the winner’s circle. This was Spencer’s first visit to the “ Beav.” However, he has been a guest at Maple Grove Raceway when the NASCAR drivers visit on Friday evening of the Keystone Nationals.

Mike McCracken, owner of BSD was serenaded by those in attendance after the observance of the national anthem with the Happy Birthday tune.
