More superchargers than you can count are on the schedule this weekend at Maryland International Raceway. For the first time on the East Coast, the popular Funny Car Chaos series makes an appearance.
And what an appearance, nearly 40 blown Funny Cars will be on the grounds attempting to qualify for four separate fields of competition.
Racers qualify for a spot in four separate fields. The quickest eight will be in the “A” field and the next quickest eight make up the “B” field and continue until all four fields are set.
Funny Car Chaos owner, creator, and promoter Chris Graves said, “This is the highly anticipated East Coast debut for CHAOS and its finally here! The fans have been hungry for this for years and the racers must have been too because we’ve got over 35 pre-entries and most of them have never run a CHAOS event before. Royce Miller and the staff at MIR have been on point gearing up for this event and we’re ready to put on a show the only way we know how, CHAOS style”
East Coast racers Chris and Krista Massarella who drive the “Total Insanity” and “Temporary Insanity” team Monzas and two of the quicker local cars attending the event said, “Going to be interesting to see where our match race cars stack up against all the best cars from the east coast. MIR is a great track so the hitters will be quick. Our goal is to qualify in the C or D field, go some rounds.”
Steve Musser, owner of the Time Bomb Vega had this to say about the upcoming race, “We as a team at Time Bomb racing are very much looking forward to this race and standing on the gas to put on a hell of a show.”
Jami Russell owner and driver of the Iron Outlaw Mustang added, “We’ve been following Chaos for a while now, excited to see them come to the East Coast and to try something different. We’re going to be a little out of our element but can’t wait to give it a try. This is shaping up to be the biggest funny car event on the east coast and we’re excited to be part of it.”
In addition to the “Plastic Fantastic” cars, Extreme Blown Altereds, Front Motor Dragsters, and Blown Competition Coupes will also be screaming down the Maryland track.
And if that’s not enough, Jet Cars and a car show are also included in the fantastic event.
Gates open at 4:00 PM on Friday with first round of qualifying scheduled for 8:00 PM.
Qualifying continues on Saturday with eliminations to follow.
