Alvey Family has a great weekend at the Orlando Speed World Dragway Division 2 event

It was the Alvey family from Taylorsville Ky. taking rounds at the recent Racing Series Southeast Division in event at Orlando Speed World Dragway. Austin Alvey won Super Stock and Matthew was runner up in Comp to make it a great weekend.
COMPETITION ELIMINATOR
Long time D2 racer and defending division champ Mondy Bogan too his H/AA Pontiac G5 to a victory at Orlando beating Matt Alvey in the finals. Alvey got a slightly better light but Bogan caught and passed the Cobalt of Alvey winning with a -0.441 under 8.739 to Alvey’s losing 0.367 over 9.547. The win for Bogan was his 12th career Lucas Oil win

SUPER STOCK
The Alvey’s got in the winner’s circle in Super Stock with Austin Alvey driving the GT/FA ’05 Pontiac Sunfire to a win over D1 racer Gianni Cantusci’s GT/LA Firebird in the finals. After five rounds it boiled down to these two and Alvey crushed the tree with a 0.016 light to the sleepy 0.113 of Cantusci and ran an easy 9.382 on a 9.30 dial as Cantusci could only watch as his 10.479 on a 10.43 was on the losing end. Alvey’s win at Orlando was his 5th Lucas win.

STOCK ELIMINATOR
It was Austin Alvey in the finals of Stock, but he was on the losing end as Terry Hembree from Blue Ridge Ga. taking his E/SA ’69 Camaro to the win over the ’99 Formula AA/SA of Alvey.
Hembree on his way to his second career Lucas Wally, had the better light and ran a 10.683 on his 10.67 dial as Alvey was a tad slower off the line running a better but losing 9.981 on a 9.98 dial in the loss.

SUPER COMP

In Super Comp multi time champ John Labbous Jr put his Goodlettsville Tenn. Based dragster in the winner’s circle defeating long time D1 racer Kathy Smulligan in the final.
Labbous had a great 0.009 light and ran a right on 8.900 estentially locing Smulligan out of a win as she had a 0.023 light but no chance of winning with Labbous’ reaction time and ET. The win at Orlando was Labbous’ 20th career Lucas win.

SUPER GAS

Local racer Mike Griggs from Ocala Fla. drove his ’66 Nova to a win over the ’89 Baretta of Alden Rollins also from Florida.
It was another case of the loser running closer to his index as Rollins ran a dead on 9.900 on the class 9.90 index but Griggs had the better light with a 0.014 as Rollins was later with a 0.077 RT. Griggs only needed a 9.941 to win his 10th career Wally.,

SUPER STREET
División One racer Larry Pulver from Palmyra N.Y. won a double breakout final in the Super Street final in his Camaro
On his way to his first ever Lucas win Pulver had a great 0.005 light to his competition, the Vega of Brian Funderburk was right with him off the line with a good 0.015 RT and at the stripe the Camaro of Pulver tripped the lights with an under 10.855 but Funderburk from Tallahassee AL went ever quicker with a 10 843 in the loss.
TOP SPORTSMAN

Butler Ga. racer Dale Thaxton drover his sharp ’03 Mustang to a win over the bown ’55 Chevy of Lester Johnson from Cynthiana Ky
Thaxton, who won the 2015 edition of the Orlando event was even with Johnson off the line and ran a closer 7.388 on his 7.35 dial as Johnson lost with a 7.293 on a 7.23 dial. The win at Orlando was Thaxton’s third D2 win.

TOP DRAGSTER
Tish Wilson from Salisbury N.C. drover her ’25 Racetech dragster to a Top Dragster win over Gary Solesbee from Sautee Nacoochee Ga. in the finals.
Joining Pulver in the first ever class, Wilson had the better light and ran a 6.630 on her 6.60 dial as Solesbee was a bit off running a 7.062 on his 7.03.
