In the first of two back to back Lucas Oil Divisional events, the NHRA D1 Crew was at Numidia PA. for the third and fourth races in their eight race season. With costs for two races for travel reduced to one, the racers showed up with big fields in all the Sportsman classes. After Thursday’s qualifying, the fields were set and by the end of Friday evening, winners were crowned. And it was an historic night with three racers making their trip to the winner’s circle for the first time in their NHRA Lucas Oil careers.
STOCK ELIMINATOR
In a rare heads up final it was two B/SA cars with different setups it was Stalba against Linke. Bubba Linke uses a LT1 motor and Paul Stalba has a LS powerplant under the hood. But now it was whoever got to the finish line first with no break out involved.
Stalba had an impossible 0.000 reaction time to Bubba’s 0.068, and it was all she wrote after that. Stalba posted a winning 10.095 to Bubba’s losing 10.141. “The final round was very exciting, but I didn’t feel any nerves,” Stalba said. “I had a big gut feeling that this Corvette was fast, a lot faster than people thought and I was confident, with the help I had, rolling up to that pre stage bulb, that my win light was going to come on.”

SUPER COMP
Harrisburg PA. racer Kelly Kundratic took her Powder Coat Finishes Ed Quay built dragster to her first ever Lucas win beating Scottsville N.Y.’s Davy Markle after Markle got too antsy and left 0.005 too soon handing Kundratic the historic win.
“I’ve been working towards this for a very long time and had plenty of “almost” my days across categories and cars,” said Kundratic after the win. “But the .90 classes are a different animal, where my roots are, and we compete with some of the best here in the northeast.” “I’m so grateful for the support from my sponsors and partners, Powder Coat Finishes, JKR Racing Products, and Right Trailers, Ken Moses Race Transmissions, Hoosier Tire, Lucas Oil, and Fuel Factory, as well as the support from my parents, Jeff and Cathy, and my fiancé, John, who also won his first Wally as a driver this year in Gainesville.”
“Every drag racer dreams of the day they get their first Wally and it’s a day I’ll certainly never forget.”

On the top end Devita ran nearly right on with a 10.904 to Dom’s better but later 10.901.
“I knew I had to be ready at the tree and be on the .90 as Dom is always right there,” Peter said. “Luckily, I got away first and was able to edge him out on a little holeshot, .904 to .901.”
“What an incredible weekend! We’ve been trying to do this for a long time and it finally all came together. I have to thank my family for all the love and unwavering support! This just proves that hard work and determination can make dreams come true.”
SUPER STOCK
In Super Stock it was another Pennsylvania racer Larry Miller Jr. from Gettysburg, PA. taking his sharp ’70 Cuda, SS/GA to his third career NHRA win over the fouling ’83 GT/LA Camaro of Lenny Williams from Poughkeepsie N.Y.
Miller who uses a big block wedge 440 four barrel for motivation said after the win, “There isn’t any of these racers that are an easy win. They’re all tough. Historically I don’t hold anything when I race, and I saw Lenny’s red light but I kept my foot into it in case there was money or an award for a perfect run.”
“This was my first race of the season. I was planning on going to Maple Grove on Memorial Day, but I’m known for dragging my feet and by the time I started getting the car ready I saw that it needed some work here and there and with the weather forecast I said, I’ll wait to Numidia.”
“I wasn’t planning of chasing points this year, but things might change now. I might go to Virginia for the race but I’m looking at what the IHRA is doing, and they need support, so I’ll think about it.”
“I want to thank Kendra my wife for all she does. And of course, Roy at Hoosier, the Donhausers and Tom Goldman. They feed me and take care of me at the races.”
SUPER GAS
Kenopic, far lane, squeezed out a win over the ’27 T Roadster of Yannetti
In one of the tightest finals of the weekend, Charles Kenopic from Renfrew, Ont. drove his ’63 Vette to a win over Charlie Yannetti from Alpine N.J. Yannetti got the better light with a 0.018 RT to Kenopic’s 0.022 and by the end of the 1320 the two were welded together with Kenopic’s 9.922 turning on the win light over Yannetti’s 9.926.
“I had some solid lights the worse was a 0.026,” the former D1 champ said. “The last two rounds could have gone either way In the finals it was dead heat at the stripe. I was lucky it went my way. I lost the last race to Keith Mayers so this was great.”
Kenopic had to get around the always tough Dan Northrop in R3
“I would like to thank Rick Stroud Eric Stroud, Mark Proulx ,Keith Mayers Julie Dube. Charlie Yannetti and also Roy at Hoosier, Ed Select, and VP Racing Fuels for all they do.
Runner Up Yannetti said after the race, “The car was picking up a bit all day, so I felt I probably had to kill some at the stripe. unfortunately, I killed a bit too much, unnecessarily. when Elise, Da Crew Chief, did the run completer from 1000ft, I was on a 9. 899.. just needed a weeeeeeeee touch of the brakes. Charlie Kenopic and I have had some great races recently that usually end up being decided by thousandths.. “BUT .0002??.. who ever heard of .0002, and who measured it??”
UNITED TRAILERS TOP SPORTSMAN PRESENTED BY SELECT PERFORMANCE
Michael Daymude from Hedgesville, W.V. likes racing at Numidia Dragway as he drove his ’08 Stratus R/T to a third career win at the PA. track defeating, David Muller from Pennington, N.J. in his ’06 GTO.
Daymude crushed the tree with a 0.004 RT to Muller’s good 0.029 but a dead on 4.700 on a 4.70 dial locked Muller out of any chance of taking the win.
“In the finals was .004 and 4.700 on a 4.70 dial.,” Daymude said. “I have raced Muller several times before (He’s tough to beat) so I knew I would need to make a great run against him. I felt the car wiggle just a touch mid track so I felt confident I wouldn’t break out.
“When that Win light came on in my lane I just couldn’t believe it. This would be our 3rd straight win at Numidia as we doubled last year. This was my 3rd race this year with our new engine combination, a 655ci Indy Cylinder Heads Predator Headed engine.”
